What I Thought Building a Business Would Look Like…and What It Actually Is
When I started my business, I pictured freedom.
Morning coffee in peace, flexible hours, and being able to stay home with my babies.
I thought running my own business meant I’d finally have time to do it all - raise my kids, grow my dreams, and somehow keep the laundry caught up too.
Spoiler: it’s not that simple.
The truth is, it’s messy.
Some days, I feel like I’m juggling snack requests and client calls at the same time. Other days, I look up from my laptop and realize I’ve been working through nap time again.
It’s the best kind of hard.
Because even on the days when I’m exhausted, I know exactly why I’m doing it.
I thought building a business meant freedom. Now I know it means something deeper - it means building a life that fits the season I’m in.
Don’t get me wrong there are still cold coffees, long days, and to-do lists that never end. But there’s also the joy of spontaneous day trips, mid-morning snuggles, and the quiet satisfaction of showing my kids what passion and purpose really look like.
The truth?
Freedom doesn’t come from doing less. It comes from learning how to carry it differently.
So if your version of entrepreneurship doesn’t look picture-perfect, you’re not doing it wrong.
You’re just doing it your way, babe!
Here’s to the reheated coffee, the messy balance, and the beautiful, unfinished work of building a business and a life - that feels like yours.
