happy birthday meme
Today is Meme’s first heavenly birthday and I've had this idea sitting in the back of my mind for a while now — a place to hold onto her, to write down the memories before they get further away from me. And today, something just told me it was time. Maybe it was the day itself. Maybe it was missing her more than usual. Either way, here we are.
I named this Sitting with Meme because her chair is where a lot of memories were made.
It was the center of so much of our life together…watching shows, snapping green beans, bedtime stories, long conversations that didn't need a reason to happen. That chair is where I fell in love with I Love Lucy, Golden Girls, Sabrina the Teenage Witch — I can still hear her laugh from those nights. And it's where I'd fall asleep listening to the Lawrence Welk Show, safe and half-dozing while she watched.
I was always on her right side, from the time I was little all the way through telling her I was pregnant with my first baby at 25, and plenty of moments after that. That chair held more of our life than almost anywhere else. So this space is my way of still sitting there with her, even now.
This blog isn't meant to be polished or scheduled. My soul purpose for this is to write when a memory surfaces, when something makes me laugh or ache, when I need somewhere to put a memory. It's for my kiddos, so they'll know her and continue to learn from her even though she is now dancing in the stars. And it's for anyone who's ever heard me talk about her and loved her a little through me.
Happy birthday, Meme! 🎂
